It was one aesthetic experience after another tonight. The afternoon started with an old Ingmar Birgman film, Wild Strawberries. The film tells the tale of a doctor who, on his way to receive an honorary degree, reflects on his life and his loves. Later, though, the visual appeal continued as I watched Zulu, a delightful piece of imperialistic cinema championing the British colonialism throughout South Africa. After a tough battle, eventually, and historically inaccurately, the Zulu warriors cheer on teh conquering British troops as they slowly move north throughout the continent. Finally, though, the greatest experience of the day was also the simplest. I left the upper campus apartments, and there, silhouetted by the few street lights present along the Collegeville roads were some of the most beautiful snowflakes I've ever seen. They wrapped the brick buildings of old Saint John's in a winter shadow. What a night.
